For the gospel has come to us, carried from Jerusalem to the world. Therefore, let us guard against the Christless religion of the scribes and Pharisees, looking by faith to Christ our Savior, to be conformed to his image, as we are cleansed by his blood, finding our true identity in Christ alone.
And this is where we live out our Christian faith, loving God and our neighbor by God’s grace and for Christ’s sake, living as those who await their heavenly rewards according to God’s pleasure and for his glory.
Because by God’s grace you have been saved, you will crave righteousness and your hunger and thirst will be satisfied in nothing else this world has to offer. Because by God’s mercy you have been saved, show mercy. For, in Christ we are righteously satisfied and mercifully forgiven.
It is in this blessedly broken, mournfully comforted meekness that we recognize the spiritual culture of the world, the flesh, and the devil, and see it for what it is: the culture of a temporal kingdom that will pass away.
